What Delegates Expect in 2016

You may wonder why we have this “blast from the past” piece on our blog? Well, it’s because while written exactly at the start of 2016, it is proving prescient and nostalgic in equal parts.

This year, when it comes to events, it’s all about taking part. So what can your delegates expect? Are you ready to meet their demands?

You may wonder why we have this “blast from the past” piece on our blog? Well, it’s because while written exactly at the start of 2016, it is proving prescient and nostalgic in equal parts.

This year, when it comes to events, it’s all about taking part. So what can your delegates expect? Are you ready to meet their demands?

  1. Video is the new text! The C-suite love it, as confirmed by Forbes in its “Video in the C-Suite” report, and it looks like 80% of all consumer traffic by 2019 will be made by consumer video. Video is increasingly popular for business to business and business to consumer.
  2. Paperless events! Delegate now express a clear preference for digital information. No more print-outs, please. Who would have thought this 10 years ago?
  3. Mobile phones (really, as powerful as some computers) are the main device that matters (for b2c events). Our addiction is only set to grow with more apps, more video, more content and more instant information available online. Plus, we can take calls! (Has anyone taken a call on an iPad while on the move?!)

So here’s our tip for the best giveaway: buy power banks in bulk! Delegates will be thankful for the extra battery time!

  1. Keep things interactive and fun! “In the same way that it’s more enjoyable to immediately speak to a person versus an automatic voice system, people will always go with a friendlier event management experience,” says Liz Elfman from Google for Entrepreneurs, in an interview with Eventbrite.
  2. Make it immersive! “Immersive” has to be the new buzzword judging by our recent tenders. Not that we have ever tried otherwise but ‘immersive’ (like ‘co-creating’ the event) is all that our customers want.
  3. Make it unique! “Immersive” goes hand in hand with the quest for a “unique experience” and is justified as the key driver for participation rates. Think unusual venue, unusual set-up, unusual session format, use of actors and facilitators.
  4. Let me network! Half the appeal of any event is the company you are going to be in. Recent feedback demonstrates the value delegates place on networking with their peers so making sure your event has a ‘hub’ where these exchanges can take place is a good start.

Hope you enjoyed this mini-digest!

Apps are seen as the instant fix for those who want to “take the event into the 21st century” by digitalizing it. We agree, it’s pretty cool to allow technology to do some of the hard work. It helps with perception too. Not all brands are Apple and by simply having an “app” the event gets...
